Circus Circus Enterprises, later renamed Mandalay Resort Group, acquired the Hacienda Hotel to construct the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The project was initially named Project Paradise but later changed to match Rudyard Kipling's famous poem 'Mandalay'. Like the poem, the resort was intended to romanticize life in a tropical paradise. Unlike its sister properties, Excalibur and Luxor, the resort has retained much of its original character. It has hosted numerous high-profile events, including concerts by top artists, major boxing matches, and large conventions, cementing its status as a popular entertainment hub.
